As many of you know over this past year I have been very concerned regarding the issue of body rub parlours and the amount of prostitution taking place in the City of Mississauga. I have been raising community awareness regarding this concern and as well bringing this issue frequently to the attention of City Officials and Peel Regional Police. I would like to commend Peel Regional Police-Morality Division and City Officials –e.g. Mr. Jamie Hinton (who manages the licensing department) for their continuing efforts to crack down on body rub parlours, especially in light of other concerns with which they must deal. For example, the Morality division is currently undertaking an intensive investigation into the use of the Internet for the purpose of marketing child pornography in the region, as there are reported to be at least 50 people in the region of Peel who are using the Internet for this purpose. Statistics reveal that a high percentage of these people are also pedophiles.

Currently there are 28 licensed parlours in Brampton and Mississauga, (16 in Brampton and 12 in Mississauga), however, the number of illegal parlours varies from month to month. For example, there are currently 7-8 illegal parlours operating in Mississauga, yet, the good news is that this number is down from last year, which at this time last year there were approximately 16.

I encourage you to raise this concern with your neighbours and local politicians.
